Baby's Gender Reveal!

Cam and I always knew we'd find out the gender of our child as soon as we could. I'm Mrs. Curious who can't handle not knowing and he's a planner who needs to look forward to and plan things.

When we found out we were expecting, Cam suggested a Gender Reveal Party - something a friend of the family had done for her pregnancy. This is a new trend that is becoming more and more popular, so luckily for me I had plenty of inspiration on Pinterest to help me wrap my head around the idea.

The party theme was "Team Pink / Team Blue".

The focus of the party was the gorgeous cake created by Half-Baked Ideas here in Toronto. The icing on the inside would reveal the big surprise - Boy or Girl?

I can't believe what a great job they did. We had no input into the design, and wow did they ever surprise us! We loved it and it was so well made we almost didn't want to cut into it.

Side note: After some pretty funny debate, it was decided it would most appropriate for us to make the first cut at the bottom of the onesie - essentially revealing the "genitals" area.

Upon arrival, guests were invited to wear their guess and pick a team of pink or blue using these adorable mini-pins from Paging Supermom's Etsy Shop:

The food table was set up with some of my pregnancy cravings - flavoured popcorn, fruit, cheese. Other cravings like salt and vinegar kettle chips and sweets were served around the condo.

We served non-alcoholic blue or pink punch with the option of spiking it with rum or sparking wine.

So how did the teams stack up? Pretty evenly actually! This was surprising as all along everyone we spoke to - close friends, co-workers and even strangers said we were having a boy. I had some support from our Moms on Team Girl though.

Finally, it was time to cut the cake. I was so nervous and full of anticipation once I got that knife in my hand!

Baby Steed!

Cam and I are embarking on a whole new project in life - parenthood!

I am now 4 1/2 months pregnant (20 weeks) and halfway through the pregnancy. Our Bean as we've been fondly calling Baby Steed is expected at the end of November.

Check baby out - cute right?? With the hand rubbing the face. I even got to see a cute little hiccup just after this photo was taken. Adorable.

So, is Baby Steed a boy or a girl? Voting is open until 2pm Sunday, when Cam and I will cut into a cake at our Gender Reveal Party (which I'll be blogging about!) and find out along with our Moms and closest friends if the icing is blue or pink!

Most people we've talked to think we're having a boy. Will they be right? Or will Baby Steed surprise us by being a girl? Only a few days until we find out!

Happy Birthday Momma!

A big Happy Birthday shout-out to my mom, who turns .. well never mind how old she turns today, she's super young at heart and with her spirit, will live to 150 anyway.

Since I couldn't be there in person to celebrate, I sent flowers. She posted this photo earlier today:

Happy Canada Day!

Every year for Canada Day Cam and I celebrate with friends at a "Ho-Waiian" party. While most of the decor includes tiki torches, fun colourful lights, glowsticks and bright clothing, I contibuted some Canadiana to the party with these simple cookies and cupcakes:

Vanilla Cupcakes with Buttercream Frosting and Sugar Cookies with Royal Icing
I couldn't go entirely off theme so I also made some Hawaiian, Beach-Themed cupcakes!

These were more fun and creative to make. I used buttercream icing, crushed up Teddy Grahams (remember those?) for the beach, and added the gummy bear laying out under an umbrella.
